VANCOUVER, Wash. (June 5, 2007) Tad Williams is looking forward to his companys next annual meeting.
At the gathering next January, the network administrator for Satellite Shelters Inc. says he expects to hear lots of good things how the Minneapolis, Minn.-based company is improving sales, customer service and overall operations as part of the companys strategy to be First in Space.
A key component of Satellite Shelters business growth strategy is deployment of a new wide area network based on MPLS technology, short for Multi-Protocol Label Switching. Williams has been directing the design and installation of the new network, powered by New Edge Networks, the EarthLink Inc. (NASDAQ: ELNK) subsidiary based in Vancouver, Wash.
We tripled our capacity, replaced 10-year-old network equipment, outsourced network management to New Edge, and didnt pay a dime more than what we were paying for a legacy frame relay network, Williams said. But the real value from our new MPLS network will come from improved efficiency and productivity when it is fully operational this summer. Our network will extend our competitive advantages.
Satellite Shelters www.satelliteco.com is a national provider of mobile and modular buildings. Satellite serves customers in diverse markets including construction; education; healthcare; finance; refineries and commercial applications.
In conjunction with the new network installation, Satellite Shelters is deploying a new enterprise resource planning program enabling its sales and customer service staffs at 14 branch locations to instantly access design, sales, order, and delivery information on demand from anywhere.
Satellite Shelters also plans to move forward with VoIP so its employees can take advantage of long-distance call savings and improved efficiency, such as four-digits dialing, managing voice mail from their personal computers, and knowing when someone is on or off the phone before dialing their number.
Helping our employees save a minute here and a minute there makes a huge difference in their ability to better serve our customers, Williams said. We become more efficient plus we cut costs in time saved, which translates into more value for our customers.
Under terms of a two-year agreement, New Edge Network will manage and maintain the MPLS network for Satellite Shelters. This includes network monitoring, reporting, and trouble ticketing. Satellite Shelters will have online access to a network dashboard.
An online network dashboard puts Satellite Shelters in the driver seat, said Greg Griffiths, vice president of marketing for New Edge Networks. They will be able to see and have access to real-time network use and performance without the cost and complexity of managing multiple carriers and technologies.
