MegaPath Broadens National Expansion To Include Small and Mid-sized Markets
PLEASANTON, Calif.—September 13, 2000 — MegaPath Networks Inc. today announced completion of a strategic affiliation with New Edge Networks, the leading national wholesale digital subscriber line (DSL) service provider to small and mid-sized cities.
This agreement represents another milestone for MegaPath, a national broadband solutions provider serving small and medium-sized businesses, small/home offices and telecommuters. With the completion of the New Edge agreement, and existing alliances with Rhythms NetConnections Inc. (NASDAQ: RTHM) and NorthPoint Communications (NASDAQ: NPNT), MegaPath will be able to deliver high-speed DSL broadband Internet service to 97.5 percent of the nation’s metropolitan population.
Dan Moffat, president, CEO and co-founder of New Edge Networks said, “This is a win-win situation for both companies and prospective customers clamoring for faster Internet connections. We’re pleased to participate in MegaPath’s aggressive national service rollout. Through our national ATM communications networks, MegaPath eliminates a local physical presence and capital expenditures that discourage or delay investments for offering new broadband services in smaller cities and towns.”
“Adding the broad coverage of New Edge Networks to our fast-growing service is another major step for MegaPath,” said Harry Taxin, MegaPath’s CEO and co-founder. “These smaller markets offer a significant business opportunity for our company as we continue to grow in both our areas of service, and our capacity to provide the broadband services and products required by businesses across the country.”
“Small and home offices (SOHOs) and small business users in smaller markets will benefit directly from MegaPath’s movement into their communities,” Taxin added. “MegaPath is the only broadband service provider to establish national pricing for all users. A home office in Pocatello, Idaho, can now receive the same quality broadband service, and at the same price, as a business user in mid-town Manhattan.”
MegaPath customers also benefit by its introduction of the DSL industry’s first end-user service level agreements (SLAs) covering speed of installation, fulfilling internal wiring appointments, and service continuity.
