VANCOUVER, Wash. - (June 7, 2000) - New Edge Networks today announced it now offers high-speed wholesale broadband access service using DSL technology in 200 market locations, doubling its operating market presence within the last month.
In addition to its operating locations, the nation's leading wholesale broadband service in small, midsize and semi-rural markets has installed DSL network equipment in another 100 locations, bringing to more than 300 the total number of installed or operational locations in 18 states. Preparation work is progressing in more than 750 other locations in all 50 states.
"I'm very proud of our team's focus and success in scaling for a national rollout," said Dan Moffat, president, CEO and co-founder of New Edge Networks. "It took New Edge Networks less than five months to go from one to 100 market locations and just over 30 days to deploy our next 100 central office locations. Our time to market is one of the fastest and most aggressive among any DSL service provider."
"We now have a solid base of operating markets where we can drill down our sales and marketing efforts and generate revenue that will help fund our aggressive national expansion," Moffat added. "Since our founding last year, it has been important for New Edge Networks to get a fast jump out of the starting block, positioning ourselves to better drive our own destiny."
Through its 200 existing operating locations, New Edge Networks is bridging the digital divide in more than 115 small, midsize and semi-rural cities and towns in 11 states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. In many cities, New Edge Networks has installed its network equipment in multiple locations to ensure reaching at least 75 percent of the areas' homes and businesses.
DSL technology uses existing copper phone wires in homes and businesses to enable access to the Internet and corporate LANs at speeds up to 100 times faster than analog modems. In addition to speed, other key benefits of DSL technology include continuous "on demand" connectivity eliminating dial up or waiting, secure access using dedicated facilities, and reliability because the network is monitored around the clock.
For business customers with dedicated leased lines from the local telephone company, business-class DSL technology generally provides the same speed at half the monthly cost. Monthly DSL rate offerings range among Internet service providers and generally include the monthly ISP access charge, local telephone charges, plus unlimited usage.
