VANCOUVER, Wash. - (June 6, 2000) - New Edge Networks, the leading national wholesale broadband network services provider in small, midsize and semirural markets, today announced the expansion of its DSL service into Arizona, bringing to 11 the number of states where the company offers high-speed Internet access.
The service is being offered to both residential and business users through local Internet service providers.
Initially in Arizona, New Edge Networks is offering interstate DSL service in the Tucson, Flagstaff and Green Valley areas. The company's network reaches approximately 75 percent of the homes and businesses in these communities. In the coming weeks, the company plans to expand its network to include DSL coverage in Prescott, Sierra Vista and Yuma.
In addition to Arizona, New Edge Networks is providing DSL service in California, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
Using existing standard telephone wires in homes and businesses, DSL technology can provide access to the Internet and corporate LANs at speeds up to 100 times faster than traditional analog modems. In addition to guaranteed speed, other key benefits of DSL technology include continuous "on demand" connectivity eliminating dial up or waiting; secure access using dedicated facilities; and reliability because the network is monitored around the clock.
For business customers with dedicated leased lines from the local telephone company, business-class DSL technology generally provides the same speed at half the monthly cost. Business-class DSL sends and receives data at the same speed, which is vital for transmitting huge text-rich, graphic, audio and video files, and establishing networks and sharing files, among other competitive edge applications.
Monthly DSL rate offerings range among Internet service providers and generally include the monthly ISP access charge, local telephone charges, plus unlimited usage.
In Arizona, New Edge Networks has reseller agreements with DakotaCom.net, Digitaldune.net, InfoMagic, LMKI, RMI.NET and The River.
"Broadband or high speed Internet access will fundamentally change how Arizona businesses conduct business and how consumers live, learn, work and play," said Steve Godsey, general manager for New Edge Networks' Southwest region. "By introducing DSL service now in the Tucson, Flagstaff and Green Valley areas, New Edge Networks and our ISP affiliates are helping bridge the digital divide that separates people with access to this technology from those without it."
