New Edge Networks Expands DSL Service into New Mexico; Albuquerque, Santa Fe First to Get Speedy Internet Access

VANCOUVER, Wash. - (May 18, 2000) - New Edge Networks, the leading national wholesale DSL service provider in small, midsize and semirural markets, today announced it has expanded its DSL service into New Mexico, bringing to 10 the number of states where the company offers high-speed Internet access.

The service is being offered to both residential and business users through local Internet service providers.

Initially in New Mexico, New Edge Networks is offering interstate DSL service through eight Albuquerque locations and two others in Santa Fe. The company's network reaches approximately 75 percent of the homes and businesses in these cities. In the coming weeks, the company plans to expand its network to include coverage in Alamogordo, Clovis, Farmington, Las Cruces, Los Alamos and Roswell.

In addition to New Mexico, New Edge Networks is providing DSL service in California, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Using existing standard telephone wires in homes and businesses, DSL technology can provide access to the Internet and corporate LANs at speeds up to 100 times faster than traditional analog modems. In addition to guaranteed speed, other key benefits of DSL technology include continuous "on demand" connectivity eliminating dial up or waiting; secure access using dedicated facilities; and reliability because the network is monitored around the clock.

For business customers with dedicated leased lines from the local telephone company, business-class DSL technology generally provides the same speed at half the monthly cost. Monthly DSL rate offerings range among Internet service providers and generally include the monthly ISP access charge, local telephone charges, plus unlimited usage.

In New Mexico, New Edge Networks has reseller agreements with Cyber Mesa Computer Systems, iHighway of New Mexico, Lobo Internet, New Mexico CyberGuide, Oso Grande, Rangefire New Mexico, Rt. 66, Southwest Cyberport, SpinnNet, Total Access and ZiaNet.

"Broadband or high speed Internet access will fundamentally change how New Mexico businesses conduct business and how consumers live, learn, work and play," said Joe Caston, general manager for New Edge Networks' Mountain States region. "By introducing DSL service now in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Edge Networks and our ISP affiliates are helping bridge the digital divide that separates people with access to this technology from those without it."
