New Edge Networks Bridges 'Digital Divide' in More Than 100 Locations and Nine States

VANCOUVER, Wash. - (May 2, 2000) - New Edge Networks, the leading national wholesale DSL provider in small, midsize and semirural markets, today announced it now offers high speed wholesale access to the Internet in 105 locations in nine states, making its service rollout one of fastest in the industry.

After initiating service at its first location in Vancouver, Wash., last December, New Edge Networks took less than five months to turn up service in the next 104 locations covering more than 75 cities and towns in nine states. These include: California, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

In addition to the 105 operational locations, New Edge Networks has installed DSL network equipment in more than 155 other sites, bringing to 260 the total number of installed or operational locations around the country. Work is underway in about 1,000 new locations in all 50 states. These locations ultimately will be linked to New Edge Networks' national ATM backbone ring.

"We went from one to 105 operating locations in less than five months," said Dan Moffat, president, CEO and co-founder of New Edge Networks. "Arguably, our time to market is one of the fastest and most aggressive among the new wave of data competitive local exchange carriers spawned following the landmark Telecommunications Act of 1996."

"Affiliation with a national player is important for our customers," Moffat said. "From day one we've scaled and stayed focused on becoming a national wholesale DSL provider, moving quickly to build our network, driving users to our network and building a unique work environment with spirited, caring achievers."

DSL technology uses existing copper phone wires in homes and businesses to enable access to the Internet and corporate LANs at speeds up to 100 times faster than analog modems. In addition to speed, other key benefits of DSL technology include continuous "on demand" connectivity eliminating dial up or waiting, secure access using dedicated facilities, and reliability because the network is monitored around the clock.

For business customers with dedicated leased lines from the local telephone company, business-class DSL technology generally provides the same speed at half the monthly cost. Monthly DSL rate offerings range among Internet service providers and generally include the monthly ISP access charge, local telephone charges, plus unlimited usage.
