New Edge Networks Expands DSL Service into Colorado and Minnesota

VANCOUVER, Wash. - (March 24, 2000) - New Edge Networks, the leading national wholesale DSL service provider in small, midsize and semirural markets, today announced it has expanded its DSL service into Colorado and Minnesota.

The high speed Internet access service is being offered to both residential and business users through local Internet service providers.

New Edge Networks is offering its DSL service in 11 communities in these states. The company's network reaches approximately 75 percent of the homes and businesses in each of the communities.

The communities in Minnesota include Austin, Bemidji, Blaine, Brainerd, Duluth, Owatonna, Rochester, Shoreview, St. Cloud and Winona. In Southwest Colorado, New Edge Networks offers service in Durango. Over the next few weeks, the company plans to expand its Colorado network coverage to include Aspen, Fort Collins, Grand Junction, Greeley, Loveland, Pueblo, Steamboat Springs and Table Mesa.

Since last November, New Edge Networks has installed and is operating DSL network equipment in 50 local telephone switching offices and now provides high speed Internet access in four states. The company is in the process of installing equipment to deliver DSL service in 1,000 locations in various other states. New Edge Networks first launched service in its home state of Washington last November.

Using existing standard telephone wires in homes and businesses, DSL technology can provide access to the Internet and corporate LANs at speeds up to 100 times faster than traditional analog modems. In addition to guaranteed speed, other key benefits of DSL technology include continuous "on demand" connectivity eliminating dial up or waiting; secure access using dedicated facilities; and reliability because the network is monitored around the clock.

For business customers with dedicated leased lines from the local telephone company, business-class DSL technology generally provides the same speed at half the monthly cost. Monthly DSL rate offerings range among Internet service providers and generally include the monthly ISP access charge, local telephone charges, plus unlimited usage.

Through strategic reseller agreements with ISPs and other communications service providers, New Edge Networks quickly reaches business users who do not have broadband access capabilities and attracts users to its network.

"Broadband or high speed Internet access will fundamentally change how Colorado and Minnesota businesses conduct business, and how consumers learn, work and play," said Brian McDonald, vice president of marketing for New Edge Networks. "In addition to saving money and improving productivity, businesses in our markets will be able to download and upload big information files faster, provide better customer service and gain a competitive edge."

"By introducing DSL service now in smaller towns in Colorado and Minnesota, New Edge Networks, with our ISPs and other communication services partners, is helping close the digital divide separating those who have access to this technology from those who do not."
