New Edge Networks, iBEAM Partner to Deliver Streaming, E-Commerce Solutions to Smaller Markets

VANCOUVER, Wash. - (March 7, 2000) - New Edge Networks today announced it has reached an agreement with iBEAM Broadcasting Corporation to deliver streaming content over its national DSL network covering small, midsize and semirural markets.

Under terms of the agreement, New Edge Networks, the leading national wholesale DSL service provider in smaller markets, will deploy iBEAM's MaxCaster(TM) media serving systems and participate in joint marketing programs. iBEAM is a leading Internet broadcast network for delivering streaming media.

"This agreement helps New Edge Networks bring the latest news and multi-media content to our customers," said Dan Moffat, president, CEO and co-founder of New Edge Networks. "Streaming media is growing rapidly and broadcasting content from points close to end users allows us to provide value to our wholesale customers and more efficient use of our network."

With the placement of iBEAM's MaxCaster media serving systems at New Edge Networks' end user access points, end users are able to receive high-fidelity broadband services. Streaming media performance can suffer when data travels from a distant server, across multiple routers, before finally reaching the end user. The design of the iBEAM Network allows content to be delivered directly into networks such as that of New Edge Networks, which ensures the quality and reliability of the streams. Customers thus experience video and audio quality that approaches television and radio broadcasts.

"iBEAM considers New Edge Networks to be an important strategic partner," said Peter Desnoes, president and CEO of iBEAM. "This partnership helps iBEAM quickly expand and extend our network into markets where we believe demand for broadband services such as streaming content is as strong as in major urban areas."

About New Edge Networks

Based in Vancouver, Wash., New Edge Networks was founded in June 1999 to provide wholesale DSL service nationally in small, midsize and semirural markets through local, regional and national Internet service providers, communications companies, and other strategic partners. Since its founding, New Edge Networks has raised more than $300 million from top-tier private venture firms, global financial institutions and worldwide technology firms.
