New Edge Networks Joins BellSouth Service Coordination Program

VANCOUVER, Wash. – (Sept. 25, 2001) – New Edge Networks, a leading broadband DSL and enhanced data communications services provider for small and midsize cities, today announced it has joined BellSouth’s Service Coordination Program allowing a single point of contact for ordering interLATA data communications and wide area networking services.

The Service Coordination Program streamlines communications, the ordering process, service connectivity and overall end-to-end service in situations where multiple carriers are involved in providing service to the end user.

BellSouth (NYSE:BLS) will include New Edge Networks on its list of service providers that BellSouth works with to provide interLATA frame relay. Customers select the carrier for their interLATA needs. Under the agreement, New Edge Networks is establishing network-to-network interfaces (NNI) to the BellSouth frame relay network.

“Our nationwide ATM backbone network, coupled with our extensive experience working with NNI gateways, provides customers with a straightforward and quick way to connect their InterLATA data locations,” said Dan Moffat, president, CEO and co-founder of New Edge Networks. “Participation in the Service Coordination Program allows us to use our national NNI coverage to assist customers to connect their locations between BellSouth LATAs and areas outside of BellSouth’s territory, in a cost effective manner.”

New Edge Networks has similar agreements with other RBOCs and is negotiating to establish others. The company derives a major portion of its revenue from services such as frame relay, virtual private networks, and LAN-to-LAN interconnections.
