VANCOUVER, Wash. – (Sept. 4, 2002) – New Edge Networks has introduced a new network solution that allows its reseller partners to directly provide blended data communications services to customers outside the national broadband carrier’s DSL coverage areas without incurring additional capital or operating expenses.
Called Frame Link, the new network solution allows Internet service providers to offer one-stop-shop for blended data networks comprising of DSL, T-1 and frame relay connections in different telephone calling areas known as LATAs. They can do this through their existing aggregation circuits to New Edge Networks and avoid new costs to provide these services to their customers.
“Frame Link is another demonstration of our ongoing commitment to help our partners boost their sales and profits,” said Dan Moffat, president and CEO of New Edge Networks. “It helps position our partners as a single source provider for multi-location data communications services in or outside of our DSL coverage areas.”
Businesses with multiple locations and high bandwidth requirements, such as banks, hospitals or retail outlets with point of sale and credit card verification, use combinations of DSL, T-1 and frame relay connections to create blended networks for transacting business. Blended data networks can help business customers significantly cut their overall networking costs.
New Edge Networks is able to provide total blended network solutions through its national data communications network and by leveraging its network-to-network interfaces with the regional bell operating companies and other major carriers.
Here’s how Frame Link works: Say a company has five remote locations that it wants to link together for accessing their computer network and the Internet. Three of the locations are in different areas of a city where New Edge Networks already provides broadband access using DSL technology. The remaining two locations are in different telephone calling areas, or LATAs, where New Edge Networks does not have its own equipment for providing broadband access, or where there are no cost-effective business broadband alternatives yet available.
For the first three locations New Edge Networks can provide a combination of business broadband solutions such as SDSL, IDSL, or Reach T-1 services. For the other two locations, New Edge Networks provides a frame relay circuit and establishes a virtual connection over its network back to the ISP partner’s existing aggregation circuit. This establishes a total blended network from a single provider.
Without Frame Link customers must coordinate installation with multiple service providers and face more expensive networking costs. The average cost per location for a traditional frame relay network could be more than double that of a blended network solution.
“Frame Link allows us to close larger deals from customers with multiple locations throughout our region or around the country,” said Lee McArthur, vice president of business services for Volaris Online. “It helps us provide a higher level of service and puts us ahead of most competitors in meeting the needs of prospective customers.”
Based in Lake Mary, Fla., Volaris Online is a regional Internet services provider in the Southeast with customers throughout Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and portions of South Carolina and southern Ohio.
In conjunction with the new data communications solution, New Edge Networks also created a Frame Link pricing tool allowing its ISP partners to obtain instant flat-rate price quotes for most frame relay circuits and transport to their existing aggregation circuit. This enables ISPs to simultaneously pre-qualify a customer for DSL service and provide a cost estimate for Frame Link. On average, it takes almost one week to obtain quotes for traditional frame relay circuits from most telephone companies.
