New Edge Networks Enhances Broadband Reach into mid-Atlantic and Northeast through Deal with DSL.net

VANCOUVER, Wash. – (Aug. 13, 2003) – New Edge Networks and DSL.net Inc., (NASDAQ: DSLN), have reached a wholesale agreement allowing New Edge Networks to improve its network reach and offer business broadband connections in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.

By tapping into DSL.net’s broadband network, New Edge Networks strengthens its position as a single-source nationwide provider of broadband access services for its business and carrier customers. DSL.net, a leading nationwide provider of broadband communications services to businesses, benefits from greater use of its network capacity with each sale from New Edge Networks and its selling partners.

“New Edge Networks is focused on providing our business and carrier customers the widest network reach, choice of technologies, and a range of competitively priced products,” said Dan Moffat, president and chief executive officer of New Edge Networks. “The only way to ubiquitous service is through carrier agreements such as this one with DSL.net. Business customers don’t want to learn to speak telephonese; they want ubiquity.”

Keith Markley, president and chief operating officer of DSL.net said, “This agreement further expands our growing wholesale program and validates our belief that DSL.net’s broadband network is attractive for other providers looking to sell services in major business-intensive metropolitan areas.

“This is a large wholesale opportunity for us because New Edge Networks has a strong sales channel. We believe this agreement further utilizes our strong network assets and provides DSL.net with another revenue stream,” Markley said.

DSL.net’s footprint is especially important to New Edge Networks for expanding its nationwide offering of its new frame relay over DSL services. New Edge Networks gains access to business districts served with about 500 DSL.net telephone switching center locations concentrated throughout the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. This reach, coupled with New Edge Networks’ own coverage and relationships with other carriers, creates one of the largest broadband footprints in the country.

Frame over DSL is a high-speed, low cost access alternative for business applications or locations that previously could not be cost justified. It bridges a wide gap between 56 kilobits per second frame relay and more costly T-1 connections with speeds of about 1.5 megabits per second.
