New Edge Networks Names Penny Bewick VP for External Affairs

VANCOUVER, Wash. – (Sept. 3, 2003) – New Edge Networks, a national business broadband connections providers, has named Penny Bewick, a veteran telecommunications policy executive, as vice president of external affairs. She had been director of government affairs for New Edge Networks.

Before joining New Edge Networks when it was formed in 1999, Bewick was director of government affairs for Electric Lightwave. Prior to this, Bewick held a variety of managerial and executive positions with US WEST, now Qwest, including more than 15 years in the legal and regulatory arena.

“Penny and the external affairs team have done an outstanding job balancing national and state regulatory issues and the day-to-day practical business matters for promoting the best interest of our company,” said Dan Moffat, president and CEO of New Edge Networks. “We look forward to Penny’s continued leadership and contributions as a member of our executive team.”

Bewick will be responsible for directing policy on regulatory, legislative, and legal matters as well as overseeing inter-carrier relations. She reports to Moffat.

In addition to her responsibilities with New Edge Networks, Bewick is a member of the Operating Board of the Association of Local Telecommunications Services (ALTS) and on the Board of Directors of the California Association of Competitive Telecommunications Companies (CALTEL).

Bewick has a bachelor’s degree in public affairs from the University of Oregon and a Master of Business Administration from City University in Bellevue, Wash. She also holds certification as a legal assistant from the National Association of Legal Assistants.
