New Edge Networks and Airpath Sign Marketing Pact for Wi-Fi Hotspots

VANCOUVER, Wash. – (Dec. 3, 2003) – New Edge Networks, a national broadband and data communications provider, and Airpath Wireless Inc. have reached a co-marketing agreement for providing broadband access and managing wireless hotspots throughout the United States.

Under the agreement, Airpath will recommend New Edge Networks as a preferred broadband access provider to Wi-Fi hotspots for existing and prospective customers. New Edge Networks will recommend Airpath for offering back-office management solutions such as billing, authorization, and provisioning for both free and pay hotspot models as well as roaming settlement and clearing.

“With the wireless hotspot market poised for a boom, many of these sites will require varying types of broadband access solutions and effective back-office services,” said Amy Cravens, analyst for high-tech research firm In-Stat/MDR. “Companies that are quick to market, with the best product set, and overall value will emerge as winners.”

In-Stat/MDR says the United States currently has about 11,000 wireless hotspots, such as coffee shops, hotels, convention centers and airports where persons can use their portable computers for accessing the Internet or their corporate networks. In-Stat/MDR expects this number to jump to more than 50,000 in 2007.

“Together with Airpath, New Edge Networks can offer our respective customers a one-stop solution that transcends a wide selection of access broadband technology choices and managed hotspot services,” said Dan Moffat, president and CEO of New Edge Networks. “New Edge Networks has been using its 850-node network to provide economical transport to Wi-Fi for over two years. We are pleased to partner with Airpath as the Wi-Fi groundswell picks up steam.”

Todd Myers, CEO of Toledo, Ohio based Airpath Wireless said, “The promise of anywhere, anytime connectivity is here. We've created several extremely powerful hosted software applications, such as WiBOSS™ and WiBOSS™ Lite, that enable our clients to deploy, operate and manage high-speed public Internet access locations.”

Airpath provides back-office solutions at more than 1,800 current and pending Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the country.
