New Edge Networks Expands Broadband Reach in Midwest and Northeast through Network Agreement with Choice One

VANCOUVER, Wash., - (Feb. 9, 2004) – New Edge Networks and Choice One Communications (OTCBB: CWON) have reached a wholesale agreement allowing New Edge Networks to offer expanded reach for multi-site managed network services to businesses and carriers in the upper Midwest and Northeast regions.

New Edge Networks gains access to business districts served by more than 360 Choice One switching centers in 29 markets. Among these are more than 225 central office locations where New Edge Networks or affiliate carriers had no prior presence. New Edge Networks has similar agreements with Covad Communications, DSL.net Inc., MCI Wholesale Services, and Verizon among other carriers.

“This agreement expands the breadth and depth of our network reach by taking advantage of Choice One's density in second and third-tier markets in the Northeast and Midwest,” said Dan Moffat, president and CEO of New Edge Networks. “It is part of a major New Edge Networks initiative to build the largest nationwide broadband coverage area. We can win more sales by offering prospective business and carrier customers a single source for all their on-net or off-net multi-site managed network services.

“New Edge Networks is focused on providing our business and carrier customers the widest network reach, choice of technologies, and a range of competitively priced products,” Moffat said. “Both business and carrier customers want to reduce the cost of managing multiple carrier relationships for their wide area networking needs.”

Steve Dubnik, chairman and CEO of Rochester, New York-based Choice One said, “Choice One has made a substantial investment in our state of the art switching technology and dense collocation footprint across 29 markets in 12 states. This agreement leverages Choice One's existing network and available capacity by providing broadband connectivity to New Edge Networks, its selling partners and other national carriers who rely on New Edge Networks as their underlying off-net provider.”

New Edge Networks will purchase wholesale SDSL broadband access and T-1 services from Choice One. Through these high-speed connections, New Edge can offer a variety of managed services enabling business and carrier customers to reduce network costs while gaining more bandwidth.
