VANCOUVER, Wash. – (Feb. 25, 2004) – New Edge Networks, a national provider of multi-site managed networks and Internet access for business and carrier customers, today announced it is offering business-class high-speed wireless networking as a standard option with all its DSL offerings.
By combining New Edge Networks DSL access with 802.11g wireless technologies, customers can get immediate high-speed LAN connectivity and added flexibility for wireless hotspots for use by employees, customers or visitors. A business class combined gateway avoids the need to purchase and support a wireless router or to hard-wire computer devices used in most offices and retail establishments.
New Edge Networks believes it is one of the first national broadband access providers to offer and support a combined DSL and Wi-Fi device as a standard business option. New Edge Networks chose the 802.11g standard for its business class DSL due to its increased speed (54 megabits per second) and potential for better security than 802.11b.
“Our customers want business class speed. They also want a business class experience, with untethered flexibility, and built-in wireless security to protect their business,” said Dan Moffat, president and CEO of New Edge Networks. “The wireless solution we provide and professionally install gives customers speed, security, and control of their network.”
The New Edge Networks combined DSL/Wi-Fi router has a firewall and embedded software for enabling Web site monitoring and time-of-day Internet access controls. The 802.11g supports wireless speeds up to 54 Mbps versus 11 Mbps for 802.11b.
