New Edge Networks Woos Telecom Agents to Drive Their Own ‘Business Destiny’

VANCOUVER, Wash. – (Nov. 2, 2004) –New Edge Networks has opened its full retail portfolio of multi-location broadband access and managed network services to resellers, in a move to expand its distribution channel and accelerate sales.

New Edge Networks resellers get a flat-rate discount from retail or promotional prices for any New Edge Networks broadband access technology and managed services. Until recently, New Edge Networks offered only its DSL access for resale. Now resellers could also offer frame relay, frame relay over DSL, ATM, T1, CPE or network-based VPNs, managed services, cable or satellite offerings.

“We are seeing a trend among agents interested in becoming resellers so that they can better control their business destiny,” said Greg Griffiths, vice president of marketing for New Edge Networks. “Agents are feeling the effects of carrier consolidations, shrinking commission payments, and have limited or no contract value for the customers they win for carriers.

“As agents turn to reselling, we want to be best-positioned to expand our distribution channels and accelerate sales of managed network services,” Griffiths said. “For New Edge Networks this is a one-to-many sales strategy: one reseller could reach many prospective customers we could not otherwise get to as quickly. By extension, our resellers could pursue business customers at any business address in the United States.

“Once customers are up on our network, we are confident they will keep them because of our network reliability and overall value,” Griffiths said. “Business customers are happy, resellers are happy, and New Edge Networks is happy to be the underlying provider.”

In exchange for a discount off retail and special promotional prices, resellers find customers, sign them up, bill and collect, and provide first-level customer support. New Edge Networks installs and maintains network connections.

New Edge Networks has about 300 DSL resellers.

New Edge Networks will continue to support is broad agent network which remains its primary distribution channel. Agent sales represent about 40 percent of the company total revenue. New Edge Networks compensates agents based on their sales volume.
