New Edge Networks Nears Completion of Nationwide Network for Sbarro
Employees get pizza for one year as incentive for on-time installation

VANCOUVER, Wash. – (Jan. 18, 2005) – New Edge Networks is nearing completion on a nationwide multi-location telecommunications network for Sbarro Inc. and its employees have started receiving pizza for one year as added incentive for on-time installation.

Sbarro, the largest shopping-center-based Italian restaurant chain in the world, is replacing dial-up telephone lines at its stores with a high-speed data network-based system. The network links almost 400 restaurant locations around the country to the company’s headquarters in Melville, NY.

Sbarro offered to provide New Edge Networks employees 10 pizzas a week for one year if the company completed installation at a minimum of 70 percent of the locations within 60 days from the date the contract was signed. New Edge Networks began installation work in late September and achieved the milestone in November to qualify for pizza. The network will be completed early next month.

“Free weekly pizza deliveries for a year was a fun incentive to keep everyone focused on achieving our stated installation objectives,” said Dan Moffat, president and CEO of New Edge Networks. “It added levity in the midst of complex coordination work that involved hundreds of people working for many different entities involved with this installation. We appreciate the confidence that Sbarro placed in New Edge Networks.”

By deploying a high-speed data network based on DSL technology, Sbarro will increase the operational capacity of its telecom system and remove the need for dial-up capabilities at each store location. Sbarro’s network will restrict access to specific Internet sites to ensure privacy and security. Sbarro receives full network management and reporting as part of its network deal with New Edge Networks.

“By using high-speed lines and technology, Sbarro will be able to speed-up customer service and improve the customer’s experience at the point of sale,” said Anthony Missano, president of business development for Sbarro. “We also expect to use our private data network for a variety of back-office operation functions, such as inventory and work-force management, that will improve our overall efficiency.”

Prior to the start of the installations, Secure Path Networks, an independent telecommunications consultancy based in New York City, conducted a comprehensive billing audit of Sbarro’s entire telecom network. Based on the audit results, SPN advised Sbarro on a new network configuration and the necessary technology upgrades.

“New Edge Networks presented a complete nationwide solution and made clear commitments for meeting the client’s expectations,” said Tom Murphy, managing partner of Secure Path Networks. “Working with New Edge Networks for network connectivity throughout the United States made this installation easier to manage and complete in a timely fashion.”
